Christ Appearing to the Apostles after the Resurrection - William Blake
The arms are turned so that the palms face out, with elbows bent so that the forearms come out further. His head and neck are inclined to the left, eyes looking down left. His left foot is forward, with the big toe separated and the rest of the toes packed together. The chest is tilted only a few degrees to the left.
The scene comes from the final chapter of St. Luke’s gospel, when two angels announce that Christ has risen from the tomb, and Christ later appears to his disciples, holding his hands out reassuringly to show the wounds from the crucifixion and show that he is there in flesh and bones.
